Physically unimpressive? -

You bet. But then so was Jesus.

Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

What is House Church? Strangely enough it is Christians who meet in a house. While some house churches attempt to conduct the more familiar church events, sermons, and programs, we prefer a less rigid structure. While biblical material is presented, a dialog or questioning environment is preferred.

What is the doctrine? We hold to a dispensational view of the bible. However, in an environment of inquiry and learning, allowance must be made for those with different views and even errors. A heavy hand regarding doctrine can stifle inquiry and growth.

Why the word "fellowship"? Most house churches start with a single family. Christians are supposed to see each other as "brothers" and "sisters" in Christ. We are admonished to love one another, possibly because humans are not naturally lovable. Traditional church structure can actually work to inhibit the deeper personal relationships that should be the core of Christian life.

Inquiry Some question the practice of water baptism. They might ask if it is necessary to become a Christian. Others might ask if it is something that should be done. Others might ask if it was only intended for Israel. We like to think that each person needs to find the answer for themselves from the bible. We can help people learn what the bible says but stop short of trying to tell people what to do.

The importance of the bible We try to avoid doctrines and creeds that man has devised and use the bible as the standard from which to extract truth. This can be sometimes difficult in that we are not given complete understanding. While conjecture and speculation can be interesting, we need to restrain ourselves from attempting to "fill in the blanks" with our own ideas.
